The PINK Foundation participated in the IWC Charity Bazaar held at the Inter Expo Center on 6 December. Sponsored by the International Women’s Club – Sofia, the bazaar is one of the most anticipated annual events in the Sofia international community, and the major fundraiser for the Charity Foundation of the IWC – Sofia.
It was an exciting day for all as the bazaar filled several halls with booths displaying national cultures, ethnic cuisine and traditional products from participating countries. In addition, the IWC invited sponsored charities to set up booths of their own to promote the various projects sponsored by the IWC throughout the year. We had a lively booth decked out in pink, of course!
The PINK Foundation booth showed off jewelry, crafts and holiday cards produced by kids in the PINK Program, and offered baked goods for sale to visitors who stopped by to learn more about our work. Board members, friends and volunteers took turns serving guests and sharing about the work of the foundation around the country, including the child sponsorship mechanism we employ to fund the regular activities of the PINK Program in Tran, Pernik and Peshtera.
This year’s bazaar was held on Nikulden, the feast day of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors. Bulgarians traditionally celebrate on the day by serving carp for dinner. A friend of the foundation surprised us with a beautiful cake in the shape of a pink carp to commemorate the day, adding joy and a festive mood to all of the proceedings.
